John started playing guitar in 1993. About a year later he formed his first band "VEJ" They released their first album(demo) "DIARRHEA" one week after it was recorded in May of 1995. The bands songs sounded mostly like the big Grunge scene that was going around. They went through many differant band members and musical phases over next couple of years ranging from Glamrock to Pop/Punk. John also at this time started playing drums. After playing for the next 2 years and winning 4 Battle of the Bands the band decided record a new album. "VIOLENT ENDING JEALOUSY" (which was what VEJ stood for anyways). They sold every copy printed up in only 2 days! The future looked bright for the guys but it was there last album. After high school the musical ideas of John Ronci for VEJ grew stronger and stronger as he began to write all alone on every instrument. As time went by he found himself writing all of the drummers drumbeats and all the bass players fills. It was a big step for him even though he had experimented with drums and bass before. Finally the whole band decided to break up and go there separate ways. The parting was amicable and they all still remained as close as before only now in separate bands. John played drums in VEJ's bass players band "PENGUINS FROM SATURN" but left from lack of motivation. John wanted to record a solo album but he had no motivation to go and do it alone. Shortly after beginning to write songs for the album he came across a band looking for a guitarist. They were called "HITLER STOLE MY POTATO". It was everything John always dreamed about in a band, being a backup singer and guitarist rather than sole frontman and songwriter. So he put the album on hold for the next 2 years and began working with H.S.M.P. As time went by John found himself fighting back the urges to be the Singer/songwriter because the drummer was both, and he did not want to polute the chemistry by taking the spotlight. After 2 long years with the band John had only written 2 songs for them and sang them but they were not the greatest in his eyes, he knew he could do better. While recording the bands 2nd album "KWYJIBO" the band split. Again John was alone but this time he was ready! While he had been in all his bands he knew he wanted to always write a solo album, he believed it was his only way of musically coming across to himself to see what he really wanted to do with his life. Over the course of the next year he took all his heart and soul and put them into writing an album, a big album! Something to him that he always dreamed of hearing. Mixing the styles of Pop with Punk and Hardcore and a touch of Jazz and Classic Rock and then layering it all with an experimental Pink Floyd-ish type of vibe with a splash of Metal. He calls it "Punk-a-Delic". He has put together an album of complete originality. He calls this masterpiece - "THE DIARY of STEVEN BROOKS". He claims about 50% of the songs on the album are about his own experiances with love and loss. But lately he has opted to writing about other such subjects as the corruptness of the world and sometimes even about his dreams at nite. When listening to the songs you never know what will come next. It has 14 songs and none sound alike at all. From the eery vibe opener of "The Redcoats are Coming" to a full on tuned down Metal assortment from "Satan In High Heels" or right back to the heartfelt acoustic passion of "Flying With Angels" or the happy brit-pop vibe of songs like "Watching the Stars" and "You're So Money", John Ronci has created a masterpiece, but not to millions of fans but only one so far...himself. He has never been so musically happy in all his life. He hopes that if people like the album enough to pursue him to play live he will form a band to play the songs out in clubs and venues.
